The more complete the construction documentation, the more detailed and reliable the estimate can generally be.
For a residential construction estimate, we would normally request as much of the following information as is available:
-
Architectural drawings
-
Site plan
-
Floor plans
-
Elevations
-
Sections
-
Roof plan
-
Window and door schedules
-
Structural engineering drawings
-
Foundation and slab details
-
Energy report
-
Electrical plans
-
Hydraulic or plumbing information
-
Interior schedules
-
Joinery drawings
-
Fixtures and fittings schedules
-
Finishes schedules
-
Project specifications
-
Landscaping plans where applicable
Not every project will have all of these documents available.
An estimate can sometimes still be prepared from preliminary documentation; however, where information has not yet been selected or documented, appropriate assumptions or allowances may need to be made.
This is why good documentation is so important.
The better the information supplied to the estimator, the easier it is to identify quantities, construction requirements and potential costs before construction begins.
If you're unsure whether your drawings are ready for estimating, send the documentation to G.A. Building Group and we can review what's available
